CANNES 2010: PALME d’OR GOES TO THAILAND FOR UNCLE BOONMEE WHO CAN RECALL HIS PAST LIVES [LUNG BOONMEE RALEUK CHAT | ลุงบุญมีระลึก ชาติ]

For the first time ever a Thai feature film wins in Cannes: Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s movie UNCLE BOONMEE WHO CAN RECALL HIS PAST LIVES (ลุงบุญมีระลึก ชาติ) received the Palme d’Or for a work that is as unusual as it is beautiful, or in Tim Burton’s (this year’s head of the jury) words “It’s like a beautiful, strange dream that you don’t see very often.”

The movie is shot on 16mm and looks like what Apichatpong calls “very antique and old style”. The movie will be screened on other festivals in the following weeks.
